Years ago, a friend of mine told me of a sad story that I will never forget. He said there had been some heavy rains near his home, and he lived next to a creek with a low lying area. Fire trucks, the police and others were driving around warning people to get to higher ground. A few heeded the warning, but the majority paid no attention. My friend went to nearby homes trying to warn them to get out but was told to go away because they didn’t want to miss their favorite television programs or be inconvenienced or thought there was no real danger.
At dark, the floodwaters hit. In the dark, in chest deep water, my friend was able to carry out or lead a few to safety. He said the most painful thing was that neighbors he knew very well were crying in the night for someone to come get them, but nothing could be done. Their cries grew fainter, and finally, no sound. A time of great disaster and tribulation is coming to this world, (2 Timothy 3:1, Proverbs 1:27-29, Romans 3:23 & 6:23). Jesus is the only one who came, lived, was crucified and resurrected to rescue the perishing, (John 3:16-21,1 Peter 3:18). Some may repent, call upon Jesus Christ, but most will ignore it till it is too late, (Luke 13:3, Romans 10:13, Acts 4:13). See you in Church next Sunday.
