Sometimes the best way to celebrate someone is simply to gather together, share a meal, and let them know how much they are loved. That’s exactly what we did for Robert and Vickie Baugh recently. We shared a brisket meal with all the fixings—and, for once, Robert didn’t have to prepare the brisket! It was a small way for us to say thank you for all that Robert and Vickie have given to Cherokee Home and to let them know how much they mean to us.
After 18 years as Cherokee Home’s Spiritual Life Director, Robert is moving into the role of Field Development Officer. His connection to Cherokee Home runs deep. Robert was once a child in care here himself in the 1970s before being adopted, and he has spent many years pouring into the lives of the children and families who call Cherokee Home for Children home.
Robert and Vickie have also recently moved off the Cherokee Home campus into their new home in Belton, bringing them closer to family and allowing them to help in new ways. While they may no longer live on campus, they remain very much a part of the Cherokee Home family.
Michael Warren, our Executive Director, also put together a special video featuring our staff and children. Each person shared three words that describe Robert. Words like caring, supportive, hard-working, brother, and friend were repeated again and again. It was a beautiful reminder of the impact Robert has had on so many lives.
We are grateful for the years Robert and Vickie have shared with us, and we are excited to see what this next chapter holds for them. They will always be an important part of the Cherokee Home family.
