Alice in Wonder Land

Last week, Cynthia told me that our West Virginia friends, Jeff and Jackie Moales, would be in San Saba this past weekend, and Jeff would be speaking at The Fathers House. In years past, they would stay with us, and we loved their visits. Last year, the guys went hunting, and Jeff was so excited to get an axis deer. He kept the horns and took the hide to the taxidermy place there in San Saba. Today, I got a call that the hide is done. So I contacted Jeff, and he is happy to get it and the memory of many great times with Larry. After talking to Cynthia, I called Jackie and told them that the only way I would feel good about not seeing them in Texas was for them to stop and visit me on their way back home. And they did, arriving around 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28th, and left around 7 p.m.

On my walk with Ellie this past Monday, we stopped and talked to Charlie who is usually sitting on his porch. I mentioned that I heard a chain saw noise and then a tree crashing and told him my husband had cut down, graded or bought logs for our sawmill at Gratiot. Then, as we talked, he said he knew Red Cecil that was a logger and also a race car driver. Well, Cecil (always called him by his last name) brought logs to the sawmill, and we went to watch him race many times.

Right after Larry's death, it was difficult talking about him because it was so sorrowful. Now, it brings joy remembering people, places, things and thankful for our 58 years of marriage. I listen to The River station on the radio that plays great Christian music. I'll close with words from a song that is on right now: "I can hear My Father saying over me, 'It's gonna be o.k. It's gonna be o.k'."
