On July 7th, Representative Bryan Slaton of House District 2, filed legislation that will bring an end to the practice of child gender modification, including the practice of genital removal surgeries, in the State of Texas. The bill, HB 89, will end these practices by rightly classifying them as child abuse.
"For years now, Texas has allowed this barbaric and evil practice of child gender modification to quickly infect our society and culture, and destroy the lives of countless young Texans. The practice of surgically removing a child's healthy genitalia and giving puberty-blocking and other drugs is inhumane and cruel. We must end this swiftly. I am urgently calling on Governor Greg Abbott to add this legislation to the agenda for this special session," Representative Slaton said.
Legislation banning this practice is one of the Republican Party of Texas legislative priorities. Identical legislation was filed in the 87th regular session, but it failed to pass.
