Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Announces Appointments to the Texas Commission on Community College Finance
Today, October 21st, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced the appointment of Sen. Brandon Creighton, of Conroe, Sen. Larry Taylor, of Friendswood, and Chancellor Stephen Head, of The Woodlands, to the Texas Commission on Community College Finance. Upon making the appointments, Lt. Gov. Patrick issued the following statement:
“Community colleges are a major part of creating a better future for Texas, and it is very important that they remain on n economically sustainable path and that they are affordable for our students. These appointees have spent their careers standing up for Texas students, and I have total confidence that they will continue to do so on the Texas Commission on Community College Finance.”
Brandon Creighton, of Conroe, currently serves as the State Senator for District 4, and is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher Education. Previously, he served in the Texas House of Representatives.
Larry Taylor, of Friendswood, currently serves as the State Senator for District 11, and is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education. He also served 5 terms in the Texas House of Representatives.
Stephen Head, of The Woodlands, is the Chancellor and CEO of the Lone Star College System, and has been with the Lone Star College System for over 30 years. He serves on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Community Colleges and the Executive Committee for the Texas Association of Community Colleges.
The Texas Commission on Community College Finance was created by Senate Bill 1230 during the 87th Legislature to make recommendations for consideration by the 88th Texas Legislature regarding the state funding formula and funding levels for public junior colleges in Texas that would be sufficient to sustain viable junior college education and training offerings throughout the state and improve student outcomes in alignment with state postsecondary goals.

Today, October 22nd, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced the appointment of Sen. Bob Hall, of Edgewood, Sen. Angela Paxton, of McKinney, and Sen. Royce West, of Dallas, to the Joint Oversight Committee on Investment in Information Technology Improvement and Modernization Projects. Upon making the appointments, Lt. Gov. Patrick issued the following statement:
“It is essential that our state agencies are as efficient as possible, and I know that Sens. Hall, Paxton and West will make recommendations with that goal in mind.”
Bob Hall, of Edgewood, is the State Senator for District 2. He is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Administration. Hall is a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Angela Paxton, of McKinney, is the State Senator for District 8. Paxton is the Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Nominations and is a former teacher.
Royce West, of Dallas, is the State Senator for District 23. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Higher Education and is the managing partner in the law firm of West & Associates, L.L.P.
The Joint Oversight Committee on Investment in Information Technology Improvement and Modernization Projects was created by House Bill 4018 during the 87th Legislative Session to review investment and funding strategies for projects to improve or modernize state agencies' information resource technologies.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Announces Appointments to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Community-Based Care Transition
Today, October 22nd, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced the appointment of Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, of Brenham, Sen. Beverly Powell, of Burleson, and Sen. Charles Schwertner, of Georgetown, to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Community-Based Care Transition. Sen. Kolkhorst will serve as the joint-chair of the committee. Upon making the appointments, Lt. Gov. Patrick issued the following statement:
“Community-based care is a major value-add for our foster care system and Sens. Kolkhorst, Powell and Schwertner will provide necessary oversight on behalf of the Texas Senate.”
Lois Kolkhorst, of Brenham, is the State Senator for District 18. She serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services. She previously served 7 terms in the Texas House of Representatives.
Beverly Powell, of Burleson, is the State Senator for District 10. Powell was named one of the "Great Women of Texas" by the Fort Worth Business Press in 2014.
Charles Schwertner, of Georgetown, is the State Senator for District 5. He serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business & Commerce, and Chairman of the Sunset Advisory Commission. Schwertner is a practicing orthopedic surgeon, treating thousands of patients each year.
The Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Community-Based Care Transition was created by Senate Bill 1896 during the 87th Legislature to monitor and report to the legislature on the implementation of communitybased care.
