Ten years ago, a group of kind-hearted folks gathered in San Saba to talk about helping homeless animals in our community. From that meeting, San Saba County Friends of Animals was born. We have accomplished a lot
We have accomplished a lot over the past decade. Through our foster-based rescue and adoption program, we have helped over 2,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens find loving homes. Through trap/neuter/return, we have spayed or neutered and vaccinated approximately 2,300 free-roaming cats. Hundreds of family pets have benefited from our low-cost spay/neuter and pet assistance programs. We have helped reunite countless lost or found dogs and cats with their families. And, thanks to our collaboration with the City of San Saba, the San Saba Animal Shelter has been “no kill” for the past eight years. Since the beginning, I have had the privilege and the pleasure of leading this organization. With lots of support from our community, our small group of hard-working volunteers has developed a network of “rescue partners” both within and outside of Texas and has implemented the various programs that have made life so much better for lost, abandoned, neglected and abused animals in San Saba County.
At the end of this year, I will step down as president of our organization. I’ll still be involved but mostly behind the scenes. Our group will continue under new leadership, likely with some changes in how we operate, but always with the mission of providing aid to animals in our county. To carry on with our mission,
To carry on with our mission, we need additional helpers, so we have decided to hold an informal “community meeting” for prospective volunteers on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Our goal is to find some folks who want to take over various parts of the hands-on work I’ve been doing, mainly in our rescue and adoption program but in other areas as well. At the meeting, we’ll provide more detailed information about how our group operates, answer any questions anyone might have, and hopefully add some new active members to our ranks. We will get together in the Civic Center meeting room at 6 p.m.
As always, we thank everyone who has supported our rescue efforts in the past and look forward to continuing this important work in the future. We hope to meet some new volunteers on August 23rd. Sincerely,
