Hello there my San Saba heart and souls! As it happens, I write this column on a Monday, and that would mean I wrote this one on April 27th which happened to be my 4th birthday. Hold down the applause please, I need silence when I write. Surviving to be four hasn’t exactly been a struggle for me considering the house I live in and the parentals I live with, so I shall not take any credit for being brave…such withstanding, wait until you hear about the week I had!

As I have told you guys, mom has not been all that well, and so last week Dr. Whiting made the decision she needed to make a trip to Marble Falls to be tested for the virus. Oh my very goodness, we looked like the filming of a comedy sketch that none of the testing people laughed at! Dad parked the car, mom gets out, and this girl holds up a sign through the plastic sheeting. Mom has no clue what is going on, so she tells her Dr. Whiting was supposed to call to let them know she was on her way. The girl told her to call her directly at the number on card. Mom does, and this other lady, in a very irritated voice says she’d been trying to call to ask her questions! They tell mom to get back in the car and to drive around the cones. Dad drives but passes up the tent and heads toward a trailer. Mom tells him to back up because he passed where he was supposed to be! A girl comes out and tells him to park the car. So he goes back where he was, and they come out again and stand where some cones are! Oh my goodness, I thought dad was going to explode, but he just cussed instead! We finally get where we are supposed to be, and a nurse comes out in a space suit. She sticks what looked like a Q-tip that could double for a chopstick into both sides of mom’s nose - so far up she could have been doing a curb side lobotomy. And then they told us to go home and wait 24 to 48 hours for the results. On the way home, I told mom not to sneeze just in case parts of her brain came loose! She is goofy enough!

Well if our experience with mom wasn’t dramatic enough, the next day the parentals decided it was my turn to see a doctor, and off I went to see Adam at San Saba Animal Hospital. Now I adore everyone there. But I thought I was going in for an upset tummy, and I had my nails clipped, a butt squeezing and all sorts of violations I had not been told about, and for which I was not prepared! I came home one very upset dachshund, and I spent the rest of the day ignoring both parentals!

It made me realize, however, relationships are about doing what is necessary even when what needs to be done might be unpleasant. We must watch out for each other, and be cognizant of even the smallest of changes in each other’s behavior and habits. Ignoring a problem, pretending it doesn’t exist, and hiding your head in the sand is of no help to anyone and has the potential to bring such harm to everyone you love. Communication and action can be difficult, but silence and inaction can be lethal. I hope you have a wonderful week until next we speak. I love you my San Saba friends, and I thank you for being!
