The San Saba High School boys and girls varsity track and field teams did exceptionally well on Wednesday, April 14, during the 2A District 29-30 Area Championship meet hosted by Harper High School with athletes needing a fourth-place or better finish in their respective events to qualify for the upcoming regional meet.

San Saba Dillos Varsity

For the boys, the Dillos put together a great display of athleticism with multiple runners placing highly in their respective track events: Logan Glover as the area champion in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.96 seconds, Wesley Lackey as the runner-up in the 100-meter dash at 11.51 seconds, and Tyler Johnson in third place in the 300-meter hurdles with a mark of 45.88 seconds.

The Dillos also qualified for regionals in all three relay races as they placed second in the 4x100-meter at 45.07 seconds, third in the 4x400-meter at 3:33.63, and fourth in the 4x200-meter with a time of 1:35.66. Runners on the relay teams were Glover, Lackey, Reagan Mejia, Stone Sears, Drake Bryant, Franco Franco, and Justin Yarbrough.

In the field events, there were two first-place finishers as Sears was area champ at 21’03.50” in the long jump and Mejia was victorious at 5’10.00” in the high jump. Landin Short was also a regional qualifier for the Dillos with a toss of 43’09.00” for third place in the shot put.

San Saba Lady Dillos Varsity

For the girls, it was Courtnee Cash representing the Lady Dillos with another superb display by winning four of her individual events: 12.74 seconds in the 100-meter dash, 26.58 seconds in the 200-meter dash, 16’07.00” in the long jump, and 35’00.00” in the triple jump to cap off an outstanding day.

Brighton Adams was victorious in the 400-meter dash and was the runner-up in both the 200-meter dash and 800-meter run, while Lexy Amthor was an area champion at 4’08.00” in the high jump.

As a team, the Lady Dillos 4x100-meter relay squad advanced to the regional meet in second place with a solid time of 52.40 seconds.

The upcoming 2A Region IV Championship meet will be held on April 23-24 at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
