The San Saba High School boys and girls varsity track and field teams recently competed on Thursday, March 31, as the Dillos and Lady Dillos hosted the annual Armadillo Relays meet. Other teams competing in the meet were Blanco High School, Brady High School, Cross Plains High School, Eden High School, Goldthwaite High School, Johnson City High School, Llano High School, and Mason High School.

Dillos

As a team, the Dillos varsity boys placed seventh with 42 points and had several standout student-athletes put together solid performances. San Saba senior Wesley Lackey looked great for the Dillos as he placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.14 seconds, while fellow Dillos senior Reagan Mejia placed second with a mark of 6’2” in the high jump field event.

Dillos senior Drake Bryant took home a bronze medal as he came in third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.76 seconds, while junior Lance Taylor finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.77 seconds.

Lady Dillos

The Lady Dillos had two girls score points in events on Thursday against some very tough competition from fellow schools in attendance. San Saba senior Leslie Aguirre placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.30 seconds, while senior Landri Glover also placed sixth with a mark of 32’0.5” in the triple jump.

The foursome of Aguirre, Glover, junior Lexy Amthor, and sophomore Jenna Lambert also competed in the 4x200-meter relay event in the prelims but just narrowly missed being able to qualify for the final event.

Up next, the Dillos and Lady Dillos will take part in the District 29-2A meet on Friday, April 8, over in Mason and look to advance athletes to the upcoming area meet on April 13 down at Falls City High School.
