The San Saba High School boys and girls varsity track and field teams competed on Friday, April 8, in the District 29-2A meet hosted by Mason High School and had several outstanding Dillos and Lady Dillos studentathletes do exceptionally well to advance to the upcoming 2A area meet. Schools also competing in attendance were Center Point High School, Goldthwaite High School, Harper High School, Johnson City High School, Junction High School, and Buda Live Oak High School.

Dillos

The San Saba boys had two relay teams and multiple individual athletes qualify for the upcoming area meet as the Dillos placed third as a team with 86 points behind the 159 from Mason and 135 from runner-up Goldthwaite.

In the high jump, Reagan Mejia brought home the Dillos’ lone gold medal as his mark of 5’10” placed him in first, while teammate Lane Miller also qualified for area in the same event with his mark of 5’6” was good enough for fourth place.

Two of the San Saba relay teams placed second in their events as the Dillos’ 4x100-meter relay and 4x200-meter relay teams made area. The foursome of Mejia, Franco Franco, Drake Bryant, and Wesley Lackey won silver with a time of 45.36 in the 4x100, while Ethan Gonzales, Mejia, Franco, and Lackey placed second in the 4x200 with a mark of 1:34.96.

Lackey was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash as he also qualified individually for area with a great time of 11.07 seconds was just a few fractions of a second from first place, while Bryant was also an individual silver medalist in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 53.90 seconds.

The duo of Lance Taylor and Lackey qualified for area in the long jump as Taylor’s jump of 19’7.25” and Lackey’s jump of 19’5.75” got them third and fourth, respectively.

Bryant was also an individual area qualifier in the boys’ 200-meter dash event as he placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.30 seconds.

Lady Dillos

The San Saba girls had one individual athlete and a foursome in a team event qualify for area last Friday as the Lady Dillos competed against stiff competition.

The Lady Dillos had a regional qualifier in the girls’ 4x100-meter relay as the foursome of Leslie Aguirre, Lexy Amthor, Landri Glover, and Macy Sebastain placed fourth with a time of 54.79 seconds. They were able to advance to area by beating out the team from Johnson City by almost a full second.

San Saba got its individual area qualifier from Glover in the triple jump as her final mark of 32’4” was good enough for a fourth-place finish, five inches behind the third-place finisher of Brooklyn Gleghorn from Mason.

Although she did not qualify for area as an individual, Jenna Lambert had a solid performance in both the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run. Lambert placed fifth in both events with times of 1:08.36 and 2:37.71, respectively.
