Middle School

The San Saba Middle School Tennis Team had a busy week. First of all, they were scheduled to host a tournament here on May 1, but that tournament was rained out. We may try to make it up on May 15. On Tuesday, May 4, the team travelled to Mason to play in the District Middle School Tournament. Teams in our district were San Saba, Mason, Hunt, Junction, Johnson City and Center Point.

San Saba as a team came in second behind Mason. Individually, the team came home with six medals. Olivia Sebastin won the district championship in 8th Grade Girls Singles. Jacob Bourke won second place in 7th Grade Boys Singles. Logan McHam won second place in 8th Grade Boys Singles and Bob Miller came in third place in 8th Grade Boys Singles. Evelyn Davila and Jovani Rangel came in third place in 8th Grade Mixed Doubles. Keely Pham came in third place in 8th Grade Girls Singles.

On Saturday May 8, the team travelled to Brownwood for the Brownwood Middle School Invitational. Teams playing in the tournament were Brownwood, San Saba, Gatesville, Sweetwater, Lometa, Rising Star, Zephyr, and Panther Creek.

The San Saba Tennis Team brought home seven medals in this tournament. Winning medals were Jacob Bourke second place in 7th grade boys singles, Evelyn Davila and Anna Millican in 8th grade girls doubles, Emily Estrada and Laly Hilario won consolation in 7th grade doubles, Libby Mays won consolation in 7th grade girls singles, and Jovani Rangel won consolation in 7th Grade boys singles. Logan McHam came in fourth place in 8th grade boys singles, and Kalina Schaeffer came in fourth place in 8th grade doubles. Other players playing in the tournament were Keely Pham, Mikayla Harkey, Jessica Nguyen, Christian Morales, and Emiliano Mendoza.
