San Saba takes down Coleman – 43-10!

The San Saba Armadillos (7-1, 4-0 district) traveled to Coleman last Friday to take on the Bluecats (6-3 2-2 in district) and came home with another convincing win 43-10. The win puts the Dillos in a 1st play tie with the Cisco Lobos atop district 4-2A. With the win Friday night, San Saba will clinch its 3rd consecutive outright district championship, a feat no other team has done in the 114 years of Armadillo football. San Saba has now won 31 of the last 34 games including 14 consecutive district games and 11 in a row at the “Graveyard” dating back to 2017.

Offensive Recap

San Saba took to the ground this week as they racked up 364 yards rushing on 40 attempts (9.1 avg) and scored 5 rushing TD’s. RB Stone Sears rushed for 211 yards on 17 attempts (12.4 avg) and scored once. Sears has now rushed for 1195 yards on the

season and is quickly rising into the top 10 single season rushing record book in San Saba. Wesley Lackey ran the ball 10 times for 86 yards and 1 score, and Justin Yarbrough picked up his 6th and 7th rushing TD of the season while rushing for 55 yards. QB Shahan completed 6 of 10 passes for 104 yards and 1 passing TD to Reagan Mejia, Shahan added 12 yards rushing and 1 rushing TD.

Defensive Recap

San Saba’s defense once again played stellar as they only gave up 10 points (season avg is 10.75) and allowed just one touchdown. The field goal came after the Bluecats had the ball 1st and goal from the 2 yard line, but a false start and several big plays for losses held the Cats to only 3 points. San Saba forced 2 turnovers and slowed the Coleman offense down to less than 250 total yards. Leading the defense in tackles this week was LB Justin Yarbrough (16) DL Bryan Reza, LB Risien Shahan, S Logan Glover (11) and DL Bladen Calley with 10. CB Izaah Bessent and Shahan picked up their 1st interceptions of the season as well.

1st Quarter

5:47 – The Bluecats march the ball down to the 2 yard line, but the Dillo defense holds them to a field goal. 3-0 Coleman.

1:02 – San Saba drives the ball to the 9 yard line; from there Shahan hits Mejia on a slant for the score. PAT is good 7-3 SS.

9:32 – Sears finds the end zone on a 66 yard rushing score. PAT is good 14-3 SS.

:05 – Justin Yarbrough kicks his season long 34 yard field goal before the half. 17-3 SS

9:51 - San Saba’s opening drive of the half ends on a 19 yard rushing TD by Lackey. PAT is good 24-3 SS.

2:00 – The Dillos march the ball down to the 2 yard line; from there Shahan takes it in on a QB sneak. PAT is no good 30-3 SS.

4th Quarter

10:15 – Coleman is finally able to create a TD on a 34 yard screen pass. PAT is good 30-10 SS.

8:12 - J. Yarbrough picks up his 1st rushing TD of the night on a 3 yard run. Two-point conversion is no good 36-10 SS.

3:21 – Following an interception by LB Shahan, Yarbrough weaves his way into the end zone from 19 yards out. PAT is good. 43-10 SS.

:05 – Coleman's last ditch effort to score ends when CB Izaah Bessent intercepts the ball to end the game.
