The San Saba Golden Armadillo band traveled to Lago Vista on Tuesday, March 4th, to compete in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest.
Their concert program included The Boom-Boom Galop by Standridge, Our Kingsland Spring by Hazo, and Zig Zag by O'Loughlin.
The concert band judging panel had the following comments about the bands concert performance: 'Band has a nice, full sound,' 'Teachings on style is evident in this group-Bravo!' 'Musical components of the three pieces were very good. The performance had many fine moments.' 'Really nice job today, Band! Your school and community should be very proud of you! Tell your directors 'Thank you'! Congratulations!!' After the conclusion of the concert, the band transitioned to the sightreading room where they had 7 minutes to rehearse a brand new piece of music that was written for the contest. After the 7 minutes of rehearsal, the band was required to perform the piece for a new panel of judges. Some of their comments were: 'Outstanding sounds across the entire ensemble today. Very focused and mature sounds were consistently demonstrated.' 'Nice tone quality throughout; good balance; melody was heard throughout. Outstanding work! Congratulations to you all!' 'This is a well taught band. I enjoyed your performance today. Congratulations!' The band received first division superior ratings in both of the categories of Concert and Sightreading. The first division ratings combined with the first division rating from marching season earned the band a Sweepstakes!
This is the pinnacle award that a band can receive from UIL for the whole year. This is what our program strives for on a yearly basis. This is the tenth sweepstakes award for the Golden Armadillo Band since the 2012 when the band earned its first in school history.
