The San Saba High School girls and boys varsity cross country teams competed on Tuesday, October 12, in the District 29-2A meet held at San Saba River Golf Course.

The Armadillos boys’ team placed second out of the six district teams who fielded at least five runners at the varsity level and had some great efforts that advanced them to the upcoming UIL Class 2A Region IV Championship meet. In the 5,000-meter run, San Saba junior Noah Martinez had a superb eighth-place finish with a time of 18:41.10, while sophomore runner Julius Salinas was right behind his Dillos teammate in ninth place with a mark of 18:43.60.

Dillos junior Everett Eidson placed 13th with a time of 19:00.60, sophomore Myles Sanchez came in 15th at 19:11.90, and Fabian Salinas also cracked the top-20 for San Saba with a mark of 19:28.40 for 17th place.

Although the Lady Dillos placed fifth as a team, they had one runner do well enough to qualify individually for the upcoming regional meet. For San Saba in the girls’ two-mile run, senior Nojemi Martinez placed seventh in a field of 35 runners with a time of 13:19.80. Lady Dillos sophomore runner Jenna Lambert placed 17th with a time of 13:43.60, while fresh man Destiny Davila placed 24th with a mark of 14:23.00.

Up next on their postseason meet schedule, San Saba will be competing on October 25, in the UIL Class 2A Region IV Championship meet held on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi with the chance to advance runners to the state meet.
