San Saba Cross Country competes at Eldorado

The San Saba High School girls and boys varsity cross country teams competed on Wednesday, August 25, in the first meet of the 2021 season at the Stride on the Divide hosted by Eldorado High School.

For the Lady Armadillos in the girls’ two-mile race, senior Nojemi Martinez started her path to another state meet appearance with a great run. Out of 142 girls who entered for varsity, Martinez placed 13th with a very good time of 14:21.40 that was almost five seconds in front of the next finisher.

Lady Dillos sophomore runner Jenna Lambert came in 36th with a time of 15:21.10, while junior Olivia Lusty placed in 56th with a mark of 15:59.70 on Wednesday morning.

San Saba freshman Destiny Davila did very well in the junior varsity girls’ two-mile run in third place with a time of 16:24.70, while fellow freshman Selenda Robles came in 14th out of 34 runners with a mark of 17:31.70.

As for the Dillos, the boys’ team entered five runners and had some solid finishers for the first meet of the 2021 season at the varsity level. Of note in the 5.000-meter run, San Saba junior Noah Martinez did great in 11th place with a time of 18:43.40, while sophomore Justin Hernandez placed 56th out of 108 runners with a mark of 21:35.20.

In the boys’ junior varsity 5,000-meter run, the Dillos had Myles Sanchez (21:51.70) and freshman Jordan Whitney (22:14.20) finish very high in third and fifth place in a field of 21 runners, respectively.

Up next on their meet schedule, San Saba will take part on Wednesday, September 1, in the 2021 Brownwood Invitational meet held at Gordon Wood Stadium.
