San Saba High School and Richland Springs High School have plenty to be excited about as of late as both schools have quite an eventful week of sports ahead of them.

In search of a record 10th state championship since 2004, the Richland Springs High School Coyotes’ varsity football team will take on the Balmorhea High School Bears.

The game, which was originally supposed to take place back in mid-December at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, was rescheduled amid COVID-19 concerns and will now be a showdown of two stellar teams at San Angelo Stadium to crown a champion.

Unfortunately, since Tuesday night’s game will be in progress after this edition of the San Saba News & Star has already been sent to the printer, a recap of the highly-anticipated matchup between Richland Springs and Balmorhea will be included in the following week’s newspaper.

As for the San Saba girls’ varsity basketball squad, the Lady Dillos have very realistic championship hopes of their own in 2021 as they currently sit at a perfect 14-0 overall and ranked No. 3 in Class 2A.

Back on December 29, the Lady Dillos faced a pivotal test on the road against a solid Harper High School team and looked superb as San Saba delivered a 56-25 beatdown to improve to 3-0 in 2A-District 29 play.

Lady Dillos’ basketball will look to continue to stay perfect over the next week with games at 6:15 p.m. on January 5 hosting Center Point High School, 6:15 p.m. on January 8 at Junction High School, and a huge home district matchup at 6:15 p.m. on January 12 hosting rival Mason High School.

As for the Dillos boys’ varsity basketball team, they picked up a much-needed 60-37 road victory at Harper to stop a three-game losing skid and improve to 1-0 in district play.

The San Saba boys will also face Center Point, Junction, and Mason after the girls’ games over the next week in three games that they certainly should win.
