There are innumerable challenges that teams might unexpectedly face each week throughout their quest for a State Championship, and this truth was no different for the Richland Springs Coyotes as they faced the Calvert Trojans, a long-time postseason rival often met at the State Quarterfinals Game. The two talented, determined teams met once again at Tiger Stadium in Hico, Texas, and the Coyotes took home the trophy after triumphing over the Trojans in a 14-point victory with the final score of 48 to 34.

The Coyotes secured this win with a disciplined team effort, executing offensive and defensive plays efficiently and effectively, led by the three Coyote seniors, Landon Burkhart, Chase Gossett, and T. J. Grant. The Coyote Offense completed 315 total yards which entailed 114 passing yards and 201 rushing yards throughout the 61 plays executed in the four quarters. While the overall team performance was impressive, there were many notable highlights throughout the contest. Senior, Landon Burkhart, steadfast in his pursuit of a victory, secured 2 touchdowns, passing for a total of 72 yards, and rushing for 97 total yards. Senior, Chase Gos sett, successfully completed all 6 extra-point kicks amounting to 12 total points, but he also received for 32 yards and had 4 solo and 3 assist tackles defensively. Junior, Jadeyn Bryant, secured 1 Coyote TD which included a total of 42 yards rushing and 42 yards receiving, and he also excelled defensively with 4 solo tackles, 9 assists, 1 sack, and 2 tackles for loss. Junior, Zane Capps, rushed for an impressive 62 yards and received for 44 yards resulting in 3 total touchdowns, 2 rushing and 1 receiving. Junior, Nick Nilson, was also responsible for securing a Coyote TD with 4 yards receiving, 2 tackles, and 1 interception.

This impressive victory was well-deserved by each and every member of this team, and the Richland Springs Coyote Football team played with heart and determination showing integrity at every turn. Coach Jerry Burkhart, Coach Shawn Rogers, and Coach Haustin Burkhart have impressively faced each challenge throughout this season and have persevered despite adversity.
