The Richland Springs Coyotes continued their unbeaten start to the 2026 football season Friday night, defeating the May Tigers, 53-28. The win improved the Coyotes to 4-0.
Richland Springs produced 413 yards of total offense, finding success both through the air and on the ground. The Coyotes passed for 250 yards while adding another 163 rushing yards.
Evan Deeds, #15, helped lead the offensive attack, completing passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns. He also contributed 81 rushing yards and another touchdown. Layne Ward, #16, made an impact in several areas of the offense. Ward rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown, passed for 43 yards, and hauled in six receptions for 76 yards.
Several other Coyotes contributed to the passing game. Matthew Woerndell, #11, caught two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown, while Edgar Flores, #10, recorded three receptions for 32 yards and a score. Christian McKinnerney, #2, added two catches for 22 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 15 yards and a score.
Richland Springs also had momentum on the defensive side of the ball. Ward led the Coyotes with 14 tackles, while Deeds and Ian McKinnerney, #14, each finished with 12 tackles. Woerndell recorded seven tackles, and Flores and AJ Rosales, #0, contributed six tackles apiece.
The win keeps Richland Springs perfect through its first four games of the season as the Coyotes prepare for another challenging matchup. Richland Springs will take on Houston Emery-Weiner at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rockdale.
