Last week was a fun one that wrapped up with our annual Thanksgiving feast. Each year, we invite our students’ friends and family to come eat a delicious meal of turkey, dressing, and all the fixin’s along with pie! We had a great turn out, and it all went smoothly. Even the weather cooperated for the kids to be able to play outside for awhile with their guests. Thanks to all that make that happen, especially out kitchen staff!
Our varsity Indians football team traveled to Zephyr for the Bi-District championship game where they came out on top with a high score of 102-84 against Rochelle. They will take on Oglesby on Friday, the 22nd, in Priddy.
Basketball season is in full swing now for the girls. The junior high girls basketball team defeated Mullin 26-8 on Monday, November 11th. High scorer was Emily Penney with 20 points. Aveigh Galbreath had four points, and Morgan Palermo contributed two points.
On the 6th, our third, fourth, and fifth graders went on a field trip to the Zach Scott Theater. They watched a live play called Into the Woods Jr. The play is a musical adaptation of classic fairy tales where a baker and his wife, desperate to have a child, venture into the woods to gather magical items to break a witch's curse, encountering characters like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack and the Beanstalk along the way, teaching them all about the consequences of their wishes and the complexity of achieving a 'happily ever after' through their journey in the woods; the story emphasizes the interconnectedness of their lives and the idea that 'no one is alone.' It was a great opportunity for our kids to make connections between the act of reading script for comprehension and seeing it play out on stage. It was a good refresher on our classic fairy tales as well.
For the second year, Cherokee ISD is participating in Wreaths Across America at the Cherokee Cemetery. Each $17 sponsorship supports WAA’s year-long program and places a live balsam veteran’s wreath on the headstone of an American hero. We endeavor to honor all veterans laid to rest on Saturday, December 14, 2024, as part of National Wreaths Across America Day. Orders are due by December 2nd. If you would like to sponsor a wreath, please visit www.wreathsacrossamerica. org or contact Mrs. Padgett at Cherokee Elementary School. We would also like to encourage the community to come out on Saturday for the ceremony.
We will not have school next week for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will return on Monday, December 2nd. Enjoy the time off!
