Cherokee High School Dual Credit Participation Shows Growth
According to Mrs. Mona Parrish, school counselor, “The percentage of students participating in dual credit coursework is on the rise at Cherokee High School. In the school year of 2024 - 2025, an estimated 15.6% of the enrolled high school students participated in taking Angelo State University (ASU) core curriculum dual credit courses. During the 2025 - 2026 school year, the percentage of high school students participating in dual credit coursework rose to 36%. Doubling the percentage of students participating is attributed to allowing college ready 10th graders to begin core ASU dual credit coursework compared to waiting until 11th grade and the beginning of a new dual credit partnership with Texas State Technical College in Brownwood with a focus on welding curriculum and handson lab experience.
For the 2026 - 2027 school year, student dual credit participation is at 42.5%. This year's increase comes from more 9th - 12th grade students challenging themselves to enroll in ASU course loads, doubling participation in the TSTC dual credit welding program along with an additional partnership with Ranger College to provide health science related dual credit coursework for students planning on a future career in the medical field. Cherokee ISD staff is proud of their students for maximizing the provided opportunities to earn college credit while still in high school.

Although our JV game got cancelled last week due to lack of players on the opposing team, our varsity team had a great week. They beat Leakey with a score of 57-8. Next week, they will travel to Sidney to take on the Eagles. Junior high will have their first game against Sidney here at home. There will be an A and B team game, giving our rookie players some extra game experience. Good luck, Indians!
