It is so good to be back in the swing of things here at Cherokee ISD! We welcome several new staff members this year. Chris Langston is our new girls head coach. He is also teaching junior high. Cecilia Langston is a special education teacher and pole vault coach. Wayne Hux is our new ag teacher. Rick Lasley returns to us as a special education teacher. Alicia Davis and Bill Woolsey join our maintenance and custodial staff. Mona Parrish is our counselor, and Katherine Corley is our high school English teacher. We have also added Pre-K this year which we are all so excited about! Courtney Newman is our Pre-K paraprofessional, and she is working wonders with our littlest Indians.

In addition to Pre-K, we are also adding a new culinary arts class taught by Mrs. New. These students have started their Texas Food Handlers permit courses this week. Once finished, they will be able to produce their certificates at any food business that they want to work at and be ahead of most other employees. What a gift to these young people! Mrs. New’s floral design classes are working on Homecoming mums and will have the sample board and order forms ready for sales this week.

We were also blessed by Central Texas Telephone Coop with special take home folders. These folders have been incredibly useful to students and teachers alike over the last several years, and we are happy to receive them again. Thank you!

Our varsity football team scrimmaged Priddy last week. They were able to score on the opposition 7 out of 10 plays on offense and didn’t allow a first down when on defense. Great job, boys! They will play in Burnet this Friday against Smoking for Jesus.

Cross Country has begun as well. Coach Langston says, “The Cherokee Cross Country team is set to run in their first meet August 31, 2022, in Zephyr. Coming off of a District Championship, and finishing 10th as a team at Regionals, the Varsity girls are ready to make a push toward a team bid to the State Championship. Come out and show your support. Go Cherokee!”

The school year is starting off well with a strong staff and great kids. We are thrilled to be a part of each child’s education. Here’s to the best year yet!
