We are gearing up for a busy week next week. The book fair in the library will begin. We will send progress reports home on Monday. Monday will also be picture day. Upper elementary will have parent teacher conferences. The 5th and 6th graders will go to Farm Safety Day in San Saba on Tuesday. Make sure to mark your calendars if these events apply to you.

Our junior high cross country team traveled to Priddy last week. The team placed 8th overall. Tilar Turman came in at 38th place. Lily Graves placed 44th. Stormy Bradley placed 78th. Miracle Irvin placed 87th.

The junior high football team traveled to Zephyr last Thursday night. Of the game, Coach Newman says, “The team showed improvement from the previous week. Kayden Houston scored a touchdown, and Robert Bench scored a safety giving the Indians the victory. Even though the game was cut short due to lightning, the players had a great game.” The score was 9-7 when the game was called.

Friday night was our home-coming game, and the varsity team took on Zephyr. Coach White reports, “Cherokee varsity football won 54-6 over Mullin. Erick Miller and Caelob Houston both had two touchdowns for the night. Joel Valdez was 2-2 passing with two touchdowns. Waylon Harris led the team with 8 tackles and three tackles for loss. Matthew Gass and James Beck played well on offense both scoring touchdowns.”

This year for our homecoming court, each class voted on a duke and duchess. The freshman class duke was Emmett Jones, and the duchess was Annie Rutledge. The sophomore class duke was James Beck, and the duchess was Emma Owens. The junior class duke was Rode Ligon, and the duchess was Skyla Shannon. Our homecoming queen was Brissa Baugh. Homecoming king was Isaac Graves. Football beau, voted on by the cheerleaders, was Erick Miller. Football sweetheart, voted on by the football players, was Maycie Shanklin. Congratulations to these young people. There was magic in the air Friday night!
