The San Saba High School varsity softball team ended its tough 2022 season on a very high note on Monday, April 18, as the Lady Dillos picked up their first win at home in a 21-16 slugfest vs. Medina High School.

After the Lady Bobcats got on the board with two runs in the top of the first inning, the Lady Dillos struck right back as Macy Sebastain hit an inside-the-park home run to right field that scored Landri Glover to tie the game up at 2-2.

Facing a 6-2 deficit in the bottom of the third inning, San Saba was able to take advantage of some mistakes on defense made by Medina. Glover was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run, Macy Sebastain hit a sacrifice fly that scored Olivia Sebastain, then Bailey Briseno had an RBI fielder’s choice that scored Virginia Diaz, and Glover would eventually come home to score on a throwing error to tie things up again at 6-6.

Medina would take the lead again during the top of the fourth inning at 8-6, but the Lady Dillos responded with another solid scoring barrage. Olivia Sebastain had an RBI single which scored Natalie Smith, Diaz walked with the bases loaded to score Rihanna Morgan, both Selenda Robles and Olivia Sebastain scored on wild pitches, and Macy Sebastain had an RBI groundout to give San Saba the 11-8 lead.

After the Lady Bobcats again had a rally of their own in the top of the sixth inning with four runs to take a 12-11 lead, the Lady Dillos came back with the biggest scoring outburst of the game with a whopping 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as San Saba bats got hot, and they also took advantage of some very erratic pitching and defense from Medina.

On the night, Olivia Sebastain was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, two runs batted in, one walk, and one stolen base. She was also the pitcher in the circle for the Lady Dillos. Although she allowed quite a few runs to score, Sebastain was able to get the job done when it mattered most as she got the win while striking out nine Lady Bobcat batters.
