The San Saba High School girls and boys varsity basketball teams squared off this past week against Center Point High School and Junction High School and both the Lady Dillos and Dillos cruised to easy District 29-2A victories.

Lady Dillos

The San Saba girls squad opened the week on February 1 with a very easy 70-8 victory at home against Center Point that saw the Lady Dillos open up a 41-2 lead at halftime and never look back the rest of the way.

Against a lowly Lady Pirates team, the Lady Dillos forced countless turnovers by Center Point that resulted in points at the other end. San Saba senior center Nojemi Martinez had a game-high 10 points in a balanced scoring attack for the Lady Dillos while junior guard Lexy Amthor, sophomore guard Jenna Lambert, and freshman forward Cinzlea Stanton each finished with nine points apiece.

Later in the week on February 5, the Lady Dillos went on the road and again asserted their dominance with a lopsided 79-22 victory at Junction. Martinez led all scorers on Saturday afternoon with 14 points, while fellow senior forward Landri Glover added 13 points in the victory. Also scoring in double figures for San Saba were Lambert and Stanton with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

With the two huge victories this past week, San Saba (26-6 overall and 10-1 in district play) will conclude the 2021-22 regular season on February 8 at home vs. rival Mason High School for Senior Night. The Lady Dillos have clinched at least a share of the District 29-2A championship and could win it outright on Tuesday night with a victory over the Cowgirls, who handed the Lady Dillos their only district loss back on January 14 as Mason won 54- 41 over San Saba at home.

Dillos

The San Saba boys varsity squad also put a 70-43 beatdown on Center Point at home as the Dillos are looking to head into the playoffs with a lot of momentum. In the 27-point triumph, San Saba senior guard Reagan Mejia was superb on the night with a gamehigh 22 points. Dillos junior forward Dylan Ware also had an outstanding game with 21 points, while senior guard Drake Bryant also scored in double figures with 11 points.

Dillos basketball handled its business on Saturday afternoon as San Saba went down to Junction and cruised to a 58-27 victory at Junction. Mejia was again stellar for the Dillos as he outscored the Eagles by himself with a whopping 29 points, while Ware and Bryant added 13 points and eight points in the win, respectively.

San Saba (16-8 overall and 9-1 in district play) has its sights set on a District 29-2A championship title as the Dillos return home on February 8 to host Mason. The Dillos will then host rival Goldthwaite on Friday night in a pivotal district matchup before concluding the 2021-22 regular season on the road at Johnson City High School.
