The San Saba High School girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams have had strong starts to their seasons as both the Lady Dillos and Dillos picked up three wins apiece with games over the past week.

LADY DILLOS

Through eight games this season, the San Saba girls’ varsity basketball team has almost completely dominated its opponents en route to a perfect 8-0 overall record that has gotten them up to No. 5 in the Class 2A rankings.

This past week was no different as the Lady Dillos were able to cruise to three consecutive home victories: 36-23 over Christoval High School on December 1, a 75-28 beatdown of Early High School on December 4, and a very impressive lopsided 70-28 win over Class 4A Jarrell High School on December 5.

Behind senior standout forward Courtnee Cash, who has committed to play women’s college basketball and continue her outstanding career as a studentathlete next year at Cameron University in Oklahoma, the Lady Dillos are playing fantastic basketball and again have their sights set on a state championship for the 2020-21 season.

The Lady Dillos will look to stay undefeated this week with another pair of non-district games: home at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, vs. Brownwood High School and on the road at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, December 11, against Eula High School.

San Saba girls’ varsity basketball will officially begin District 29 play at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, on the road at its longtime rival Goldthwaite High School.

DILLOS

Although the San Saba boys’ varsity basketball team had a delayed start to its season with football season continuing into the later stages of November, the Dillos picked up three wins of their own to improve to 3-0 out of the gate.

The Dillos had to scratch and claw in all three of their games, but they certainly got the job done down the stretch as San Saba got a solid 47-38 win over Christoval on December 1 in their season opener at home, a double-digit 44-33 victory vs. Lingleville High School on December 4, and a hard-fought 33-29 win against nearby Llano High School on December 5 in a Saturday afternoon contest.

After a rematch at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, on the road at Llano, the Dillos will play two more non-district games this week: 6:30 p.m. on December 11 on the road at Comanche High School and 11:30 a.m. on December 12 at home vs. Early High School.
