The San Saba High School varsity baseball program had four outstanding Dillos senior players selected to the 2022 All-West Texas Baseball Team compiled by the San Angelo Standard-Times. The Dillos had the quartet of 2022 graduates Weston Oliver, Wesley Lackey, Drake Bryant, and Reagan Mejia honored on the team composed of players from the area.

Weston Oliver

In his lone year for the Dillos in 2022 after transferring from Round Rock High School, Oliver had a phenomenal season that helped him win the All-West Texas Co-Most Valuable Player Award. He hit a stellar .578 average while leading his team in all major offensive categories with 37 hits, 30 runs batted in, 29 runs scored, 15 stolen bases, 11 doubles, eight home runs, and three triples. Oliver as the Dillos’ ace was a power pitcher with a whopping 103 strikeouts of opposing batters in 56.1 innings of work with just a 3.36 earned run average.

Wesley Lackey

Lackey was a fantastic player for the Dillos in 2022 as he batted .406 with 28 hits, led the team in stolen bases with 25, scored 22 runs, and had 16 runs batted in.

Drake Bryant

A great outfielder for San Saba as a senior, Bryant hit an impressive .429 during the 2022 season with 27 hits, 15 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 11 runs driven in.

Reagan Mejia

Mejia was very reliable on the mound for the Dillos as he had 59 strikeouts in 45.2 innings pitched with just 17 walks issued and a 3.68 ERA. He was also a solid hitter for San Saba with a .397 batting average, 26 runs scored, 23 hits, and 18 stolen bases.

Under head coach Scott Hayes, the Dillos concluded their 2022 campaign with a 12- 12 overall record and a 6-4 mark in District 29-2A play that gave them a No. 3 seed in the playoffs. San Saba put up a fight against Sabinal High School in the 2A bi-district playoffs as they lost the first game 5-2, won Game 2 easily by a whopping 10-0 margin, and was eliminated in a decisive Game 3 with a close 10-8 contest.
