Dillos lose a heartbreaker to the Eagles

San Saba traveled to Junction last Friday night and gave the Eagles (#15 in the state) all they could manage before losing 27-28. The Harris polls gave the Dillos little chance in the game as they were picked to lose by 17 points. Statistically, San Saba did everything correctly to win the ball game: the offense accumulated over 400 yards of total offense on 45 plays and held on to the ball for over 30 minutes and limited the quick-fire Junction offense to the sideline. Three consecutive turnovers, one of those being an interception for a score, and three big runs over 30 yards was just too much for the young San Saba team to overcome.

San Saba now moves its focus to its old rivals from the north and prepare for the 107th meeting of the “Battle of the River.”

Offensive Leaders –

Luke Tharp was 13 of 23 passing (56%) with 202 yards passing and carried the ball 21 times for 169 yards (8 yards avg.) Glover caught six balls for 67 yards, Trace Temples caught two passes for 59 yards and a score. Jason Everett and Preston Grey had two catches while Skyler Romero had one big catch for 43 yards.

Defensive Leaders –

Juan Patino led the team with 6.5 tackles followed by Jason Everett with 5.5. Kaylub Roberts had 4.5 tackles and a sack with Winton Lackey chipping in 3.5 tackles.
