The San Saba High School varsity baseball team had many players selected to the District 29-2A All-District team recently released after the Dillos had a solid 2022 season returning to the playoffs under head coach Scott Hayes.

A very high honor was given to San Saba standout senior Weston Oliver, who was named as the Co-Offensive Most Valuable Player for an outstanding season at the plate in which he hit a stellar 0.578 average while leading his team in all major offensive categories with 37 hits, 30 runs batted in, 29 runs scored, 11 doubles, eight home runs, and three triples. Although he did not get recognized for his pitching prowess since he was already named an Offensive MVP, Oliver as the Dillos’ ace was a power pitcher with a whopping 103 strikeouts of opposing batters in 56.1 innings of work with just a 3.36 earned run average.

San Saba senior pitcher Reagan Mejia was also very reliable on the mound for the Dillos as he had 59 strikeouts in 45.1 innings pitched with just 17 walks issued and a 3.68 ERA. Mejia was also a solid hitter for San Saba with a 0.397 batting average, 26 runs scored, 23 hits, and 18 stolen bases.

Also named as first-team selections for San Saba were senior third baseman Wesley Lackey, senior outfielder Drake Bryant, and junior catcher Lance Taylor. Lackey and Bryant were second and third on the team in hits with 28 and 27, respectively, while Taylor scored 14 runs and drove in 11 during the 2022 season.

The Dillos had four secondteamers on the District 29-2A team with junior outfielder Tyler Johnson, junior designated hitter Hayden Reeves, sophomore first baseman Lane King, and freshman second baseman Winton Lackey.
