Dillos Baseball picks up two wins at San Saba Tourney

The San Saba varsity baseball team was in action this past week as the Dillos picked up wins against the Llano High School junior varsity squad as well as the Hico High School varsity team.

San Saba Dillos 7, Llano Jackets Jv 2 – Despite the Dillos trailing Llano 2-0 for most of the game, San Saba really turned things on late as they came back for a 7-2 victory over the JV Jackets. With San Saba trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Dillos’ offense came to life as San Saba took a 5-2 lead in the frame and did not look back from there.

San Saba racked up a whopping 16 hits as a team, including a 3-for-3 day from Drake Bryant in which he also drove in two runs. In the win, Weston Oliver hit a solo home run and also added a triple, while the Dillos got two hits apiece from Weston Lackey, Lance Taylor, Hayden Reeves, Layke Haynes, and Winton Lackey.

On the mound, Reagan Mejia started and pitched 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts and just one walk issued. Tyler Johnson came on to pitch in relief and allowed just one run in 1.2 innings.

SAN SABA DILLOS 17, HICO TIGERS 7 – The bats really came to life for San Saba on Saturday as the Dillos piled it on the Hico Tigers with a resounding 17-7 victory.

Oliver hit his third home run against Hico in just six games played as he had a team-high four runs batted in, while Mejia and Taylor also did their fair share of damage at the plate with three runs driven in apiece. Wesley Lackey and Reeves were also busy on offense as the pair each drove in two runs in the 10-run win over Hico, which saw the Dillos score seven runs in the bottom of the second inning and five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Taylor started the game at pitcher for the Dillos and was able to get the job done when it mattered as he struck out four batters in 5.0 innings of work.

The Dillos (3-3 overall record) will travel to take on Cisco High School on Tuesday night before returning home for another pair of non-district games at 5 p.m. on Friday vs. Sonora High School and 12 p.m. on Saturday vs. rival Goldthwaite High School.
