Dillos’ and Lady Dillos’ Cross Country impresses again at Bluebonnet Invitational

The San Saba High School boys’ and girls’ varsity cross country teams put forward an excellent showing on Wednesday, September 9, when the Armadillos and Lady Armadillos both won their meets at the Hico Bluebonnet Invitational.

For the boys, the Dillos had five of its runners finish in the top 15 as San Saba’s 38 team points edged out Brownwood High School’s 49.

Finishing second overall in a field of 36 runners in the boys’ three-mile race was San Saba senior Levi Brown, who had an impressive time of 19:01.68 in the Dillos’ second meet of the 2020 season.

In what looks to be a bright future ahead of them, San Saba’s boys had four underclassmen in the top 15: sophomore Noah Martinez (19:19.18) in fifth place, freshman Julius Salinas (19:24.22) in seventh place, sophomore Everette Edison (19:35.50) in ninth place, and freshman Justin Hernandez (20:39.46) in 15th place.

As for the girls, the Lady Dillos also put together a superb team effort as their 39 points bested the Brownwood Lady Lions’ 54 points.

San Saba senior standouts Brighton Adams (13:29.67) and Courtnee Cash (13:35.98) finished the girls’ 3,200-meter run in second and third place, respectively, while junior Nojemi Martinez (14:21.48) locked up a seventh-place finish.

Up next for San Saba cross country, the Dillos and Lady Dillos will take part in the Junction Eagles Invitational on Wednesday, September 16, at Junction High School. The varsity squads are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with the junior high meet set for later that day at 4 p.m.
