It was a rough regular season finale for the Armadillos last Friday night as they lost to the #6 ranked team in the state, Mason Punchers, 35-0. San Saba had several key players confined to the sideline due to injuries making their attempts to upset the Punchers even more difficult.
In other District 14-2A play, Thorndale defeated Holland in a mild upset that created a threeway tie with San Saba, Holland and Thorndale all ending district play with a 3-2 record. Once the tie breaker rules came into play, San Saba ended up as the 2nd seat and will be facing the Pirates from Crawford in the bi-district round of the playoffs this Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 at Bulldog Stadium in Coppers Cove.
Offensive leaders
Glover rushed for 24 yards on 13 carries and was 3 of 4 passing and caught one pass. Everett rushed for 36 yards on 13 attempts while Alex Estrada ran for 29 yards on 9 carries. Lackey was 2 for 4 passing and rushed for 10 yards, Danny English caught 2 passes and Cash Bryant contributed one catch for 19 yards.

San Saba vs Crawford Bi District preview For the 28th time in school history, the San Saba Armadillos (6-4) will advance into the playoffs, and for the 2nd time they will be squaring off against the Crawford Pirates (2-8).
Round one of the 2024 playoffs will see the San Saba Armadillos (District 14 runner up) take on the Crawford Pirates (3rd place in District 13). Crawford lost their 1st seven games of the season but won two out of the last three contests that caused a three-way tie with Bruceville and Rosebud and enabled them to squeeze into the playoffs. There are two common opponents both teams have played this year, the Pirates lost to Hamilton 22-38 and Holland 13-42, San Saba lost to Hamilton 21-40 and Holland 41-44. The Dillos are looking to advance to the Area round of the playoffs for the first time since 2020. And now some useless (but always good to know) facts about the 2 teams.

This will be coach Aguirre’s fourth appearance in the playoffs as head coach of the Dillos which ties him for second most with coach Pannel and one shy of coach Andrew Locklear. He has coached the Dillos in eight playoff games, tying him with Locklear at the top and needs just one more win to be the winningest coach in San Saba history in the playoffs.
