San Saba will open District play this Friday against their oldest and most frequently played foe, the Goldthwaite Eagles. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Goldthwaite, but due to seating limitations the game was moved to Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood.

This will be the third time the teams have played in Brownwood (2004, 2005). Both of those games were played as part of the “Gordon Wood Classic,” in which several teams played throughout the weekend.

Although it is the 103rd meeting, it is the 98th year the teams have played each other. There were no games from1917-1921 and no games in ’47 and ’52. They played twice in 1923, '29, '30, '33 and '39. The last two years have been good to San Saba as the Dillos outscored the Eagles 139-0 and are looking to take three in a row from Goldthwaite for the first time since 1987-1989.
