08/24/2023 San Saba 41; Lampasas 0

The San Saba Junior Varsity defeated the Lampasas Badgers 41-0 at Rogan Field Thursday evening,August 24th. It was the season opener for both teams. Lampasas kicked to San Saba to begin the contest. Luke Thorpe returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a Dillo score. The extra point try was rubbed out due to a penalty, 6-0 Dillos. San Saba kicked to Lampasas. Good defense by Graden Lebow, Kaleb Roberts, Jason Everett, Luke Thorpe, Jacob Bourke, Dawson Crawford and Danny English forced a Badger punt. The Dillos touched the rolling ball, and Lampasas got it back.

Brandon Gonzalez, Jack Stewardson, Jose Vega, and Melvin Umble played tough defense. Anthony Garcia had a tackle for a loss. The Dillo defense forced another Badger punt. Luke Thorpe raced 60 yards to another Dillo score. Dawson Crawford’s kick was good, 13-0 Dillos. Jose Vega, Omar Landeros, Ryan Lemaster, Garden Lebow, Preston Gray, Danny English, and Jack Stewardson blocked for Luke. San Saba kicked to Lampasas.

Kaleb Roberts covered a Badger fumble for the Dillos. San Saba took over on the Badger 40. Preston Gray ran for seven yards. Thorpe gained 8. Gray added 5. Penalty stalled the drive. Lampasas took over the ball starting the second quarter. Andre Martinez, Jayden Aguirre, Rodrigo Macedo, Jacob Bourke, Ulices Mendoza, Martin Macias, and Rodolfo Valdez all turned in good defensive play. Brandon Gonzales intercepted a Badger pass at the Badger 38-yard line. Jason Everett kept the ball for 25 yards. Thorpe added 2 before breaking loose for a 20-yard scoring run. Dawson’s kick was good, 20-0 Dillos. Jayden Aguirre covered an onside kick. Lebow ran for 3. Diego Gil Vega blocked well. Everett added 12. Thorpe gained 15. Melvin Umble took a pitch from Everett for a 25-yard touchdown run. Dawson’s kick was good, 27-0 Dillos. Lampasas ran several plays before punting just before halftime. San Saba kicked to Lampasas to begin the second half. Umble, Gonzalez, Lebow, Everett, Vega, Roberts, Crawford, English and Bourke forced a Badger punt. The Dillo offense took over at the 50. Everett gained 34 yards, Thorpe 15, before Everett ran it in for a touchdown from the 5. Dawson’s kick was good, 34-0 Dillos.

After the ensuing kickoff, Mendoza, Macedo, Stewardson, Ryton Morgan, Carson Murphy, Jonathan Garcia and Valdez stopped the Badgers on fourth down. The Dillos took over at the Badger 40. Everett passed to English for 12 yards. Everett ran for 20. A Dillo pass fell incomplete as the quarter changed. The drive stalled when a Dillo pass was intercepted by Lampasas. The Dillo defense rose to the occasion and stopped the Badgers at the Lampasas 42. A pass to Lebow gained 7. The next pass was incomplete. Thorpe took over at quarterback. Luke sprinted right and pitched to Melvin Umble as he was being tackled. Umble raced 42 yards to a touchdown. The PAT was good to end the scoring, 41-0 Dillos. It was a strong Dillo performance on both sides of the ball. The JV Dillos play Junction in Junction Thursday evening following the 7th and 8th games.

09/01/2023 San Saba JV Dillos Defeat Junction 28-20

The San Saba Junior Varsity Dillos defeated the Junction JV Eagles in Junction last Thursday by a score of 28-20. San Saba dominated most of the game, but Junction fought back late in the game.

Junction kicked to San Saba to start the game. Preston Gray gained 4 yards. Luke Thorpe gained 8. Graden Lebow added 4 and a first down. Thorpe broke for a 60-yard touchdown run. Dawson Crawford kicked the extra point, 7-0 Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Junction. Good defense was played by Kaylob Roberts, Danny English, and Graden Lebow. Dillos take over on downs. First play, no gain; Thorpe gained 10. Ryan Lemaster, Omar Landeros, Gray, Crawford, Lebow, Danny English, and Jack Stewardson blocked well. Gray gained 4, Thorpe 20, Gray 15, Thorpe 2, 6, and 8 as the first quarter ended. The second quarter began with Thorpe gaining 8, Jason Everett 4. Thorpe scored from 5 out, Dawson kick good, 14-0 Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Junction. Martin Macias, Dawson, Roberts, Jayden Aguirre, Jacob Bourke and Jason Everett played good defense. Ryton Morgan had a big hit as did Brandon Gonzalez. Junction eventually scored on a 20-yard run.

The PAT failed, 14-6 Dillos. Junction kicked to San Saba. Gray gained 5 yards; Thorpe 15,9,3,6. The drive stalled. Graden Lebow had a tackle for a loss as did Roberts. The Dillo defense held. Dillos got the ball back at the 35.

Jason Everett raced 65 yards for a touchdown. Crawford’s kick was good, 21-6 Dillos at halftime. San Saba kicked to Junction to start the second half. Two plays later, Kaylub Roberts caused an Eagle fumble. The Dillo offense took over. Thorpe ran for 5, Everett 8, Gray 1, Thorpe 40 to the Eagle 2. Everett scored from the 2. Crawford’s kick was good, 28-6 Dillos. San Saba kicked to Junction. Junction scored a couple of plays later on a long pass. The PAT failed, 28-12 Dillos.

Junction on side kicked to start the 4th quarter. Junction drove the ball to the Dillo 20. The Eagles scored on a pass. They ran in the extra points. 28-20 to end the scoring, after another onside attempt covered by San Saba. The Dillo offense ran for a first down, and the knelt the ball for two plays to seal the victory.
