MOE Basketball (20-5) picked up their 4th consecutive tournament Championship on Saturday, March 26th, as they took part in the 5th/6th Grade Girls Division of the 2022 San Saba Girls Youth Basketball Tournament. The tournament was held in San Saba, Texas.
MOE faced Dublin in the opening round of the tournament and jumped out to 20-3 halftime lead and never looked back as they rolled on to a 33-12 win and advanced to the semifinal round of the tournament.
Berkley Lengefeld led MOE in scoring with 12 points, followed by Emma Johnson with 10 points, Emma Ensor with 6 points, and Brooklyn Allison with 5 points. MOE made 11 out of 15 free throws to shoot 73 percent from the charity stripe.
MOE faced the Centex Fire (Belton, Gatesville, Killeen area) in the semi-final round and edged out a 17-14 win to advance to the tournament title game. Emma Johnson led all scorers with 10 points.
Centex Fire worked their way back to the Championship game and set up a rematch of the semi-final game played earlier in the day. The rematch became a defensive battle as both teams went into halftime tied at 3-3.
A nine-point third quarter, including a “huge” 3-pointer late in the quarter by Berkley Lengefeld, would help push MOE to a 14-7 lead at the end of the third quarter. MOE went on to win the Championship by a score of 18-12. Lengefeld led all scorers with 9 points, followed by Emma Johnson with 4 points, Emma Ensor with 3 points, and Brooklyn Allison with 2 points.
