Sloan LaFayette Kirk, Jr. (Tony), age 86, of San Saba, passed away on September 28th, 2021. Tony was born February 5th, 1935, to Bobbie Grant Kirk and Sloan LaFayette Kirk, Sr. in San Saba, Texas. Tony grew up in San Saba and graduated from San Saba High School in 1953. After graduation, Tony attended the University of Texas in Austin. He graduated in 1958 with a degree in Mathematics. Upon Graduation from UT, Tony accepted a position with Lockheed Aircraft in Los Angeles, California, to work on the Space program. In 1964, Tony transferred to the Space Center area in Houston working at NASA. Tony worked on the Apollo & Gemini projects and was proud to be a part of the team effort that put a man on the moon. While in California, Tony met and married Patricia (Patsy) Binkley. In 1977, Tony decided to rediscover his roots. He and his family moved to San Saba to manage the family ranch. Tony enjoyed many hobbies and interests. Whatever he was working on at the time, he did with perfection. He never took anything at face value; rather, he wanted to research it and know exactly how and why it worked. Through the years, these included: photography (he did several special events for people for free), woodworking (making toys, cooking utensils and furniture), golf (making his own clubs), fly fishing (making hand-tied flies), and ham radio (getting his operator's license). His latest interest was baking bread from starters that he had built from scratch and finding difficult recipes and making them for his friends and family. Tony also enjoyed his many years being on the local Farm Bureau Board and being a volunteer driver for the San Saba County EMS.

Tony is survived by his wife, Patsy; sons: Regan and wife Kim, and Cory and wife Laura; grandchildren: Raley, Weston & Gracie; and a multitude of very special friends. Tony was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Tony’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to the charity of your choice.
