Ronald Gene McBride

Ronald Gene McBride, age 79 of San Saba, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Ronnie was born on October 28, 1945, in San Saba, Texas. His parents were Raleigh (Junior) McBride and Maxine Smith Miffleton and Charles Miffleton.

After graduation from San Saba High School, Ronnie enlisted in the Army where he served in the 101st Airborne. He was also a member of the Texas National Guard. After leaving military service, he worked at IBM in Austin. He then made his way back to San Saba and was a hay farmer and tractor puller. He was also a San Saba County Commissioner for many years. Ronnie retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Ronnie had a bigger-than-life personality, and he never met a stranger. He always had a story or a joke to tell. Ronnie had a big heart and was a lover of animals, especially his dogs and all his many cats. He took in many a stray animal during his lifetime. They always seemed to know where to go to be taken care of. He enjoyed playing Bingo and dominos with his fellow residents at the nursing home. His presence in our lives and all that he touched will definitely be missed. As one of our friends recently said it best, the “resort” will never be the same.

Ronnie is survived by son, Chris and wife Kim of Austin; brother, Charles Miffleton and wife Karen of New Braunfels; grandchildren: Amber Everett Gonzales and Billy of San Saba, David McBride and wife Katie of Dallas, and Ashlee McBride and Rob Booher of Knoxville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren: Ethan Gonzales and Chassidy Gonzales of San Saba, and Michaela Josephine McBride of Dallas; two nephews that were very special to him, Charlie Miffleton and wife Maddie of Seguin, and Joe Miffleton of Houston; four brothers-in-law: Jesse Salinas of Childress, Ester (Joe) Salinas of Albuquerque, NM, Erasmo Salinas of Fort Worth, and Rudy Salinas of Frost; and two sisters-in-law: Estela Leal of Spicewood, and Vera Taylor of Fairfield. Ronnie was preceded in death by wife, Josephine (Josie) McBride, and sons David Wesley McBride and Patrick Wayne McBride.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the San Saba City Cemetery, with Pastor Alvino Valdez officiating. Memorials in Ronnie’s name may be made to San Saba’s First Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
