PeggyeAnne (Hillman) Whittenburg, 83, of San Saba, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, at San Saba Nursing and Rehab. Peggye was born in Leakesville, Mississippi. on February 10, 1940, to Ford and Vera (McInnis) Hillman. She was the oldest of four children.

Throughout Peggye’s life, she lived in various states and even spent time in Puerto Rico. However, the latter half of her life was spent living in Tyler, Texas, and San Saba, Texas. In all the places she lived, Peggye left her mark in the hearts of many. Peggye was one of a kind. She was fierce, feisty, and never afraid to speak her mind.

Peggye loved her country, reminiscing about the good ol’ days, and a nice cold Coca-Cola. She would never turn down a Snickers bar, a Wendy’s frosty, or a slice of red velvet cake. Being a wonderful cook, friends and family will always cherish the time spent together while enjoying Peggye’s delicious meals and desserts. Her love of making good food is what made Peggye’s many years working at Oliver Pecan Company in San Saba, Texas, so special and memorable.

Peggye is survived by her daughter, Deborah Shoemaker of Palm Springs, California; sister, Sue (Fonda) Lambert of Lucedale, Mississippi; grandson, Josh Shoemaker of Midland, Texas; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Todd) Parker of Dothan, Alabama; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was a proud great-grandmother to Selah Kuwahara, Aubrey Shoemaker, and Reagan Shoemaker.

Peggye was preceded in death by her parents, Ford and Vera Hillman; husband, Edsel Whittenburg; son, Ray Shoemaker; sister, Donna Cornelson; and brother, James Hillman.

A come and go celebration of life will be held on February 3, 2024, from 10:00-12:00 a.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Peggye was passionate about maintaining the cemetery grounds where her loved ones are laid to rest.

Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to Chappel Cemetery in San Saba, Texas, and/or Sweetwater Cemetery in Leakesville, Mississippi.

Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home in San Saba.
