TX; grandchildren, Michael Campbell of Abilene, TX, Christopher O’Neal and fiancé Cheyanne Brisco of Jonestown, TX, Taylor Sprayberry of Henderson, TX, Chad Campbell and wife Jessica Campbell of Katy, TX, Brandi Johnson and fiancé Chris Slaughter of Abilene, TX, and Douglas Adams and wife Candys Adams of Santa Ana, TX, as well as several beloved great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Edna Irene Lord and R.V. Lord, and brother Edwin Royce Lord.
Nelda was born December 15, 1938, in San Saba, TX to Edna Irene Lord and R.V. Lord. Growing up Nelda was a very talented pianist and singer with an angelic soprano voice. In her youth, every summer was spent playing piano and singing as she followed her father to revivals at numerous small country churches all over Central Texas. Throughout high school Nelda was class officer and twirler, alongside her beloved cousin, Sandy McHorse, who she always said was more like the sister she never had. After graduating from Richland Springs High School in 1957 Nelda moved to Austin, TX where she worked as secretary for the Building Commissioners Office at the State Capital and where her children were born.
In 1971 she moved back to Richland to be close to her mother and father and to raise her children. Nelda worked for Central Texas College in San Saba, TX, once again with Sandy, where the two helped launch the inaugural satellite campus for college classes and the Job Training Partnership Act work program for young people ages 14-18 from low-income homes. Due in part to her hard work, San Saba and Mills Counties had one of the highest rated programs for both college classes and JTPA Programs in CTC’s 18-county service area. She and Sandy worked hard and laughed a lot during their years with CTC. Following her work at CTC she became a medical transcriptionist, the profession in which she would work until retirement.
Nelda loved music, shopping, baking and gardening and had an amazing green thumb when it came to flowers and plants, something she inherited from her father. But above all else, Nelda loved and adored her children.
Once her children were grown and left home the empty nest was filled with her beloved cats which she absolutely adored. Nelda always took great pride in how she looked, and her beauty never wavered with age. She was kind and loving, with a big heart, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home, 143 Nixon Lane, San Saba, Texas 76877.
Nelda Sue Lord Taylor went to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, December 8, at the age of 84. She is survived by her daughter Jana Brooks and husband David Brooks of Henderson, TX, her son Kevin O’Neal of Henderson, TX, daughter Julie Campbell and husband Glen Campbell of Abilene, TX, and daughter Jennifer Corley and husband Greg Corley of McKinney, TX; step-daughters Carolyn AdamsHogan of Abilene, TX, and LeaAnn Sofge of Van Couver, WA, step-son Timothy Sofge of Dallas, TX, daughter by heart Vicki O’Neal of Gladewater,
