Nancy Louise Fitzgerald Stewart, 77, formerly of San Saba, passed away in Maryland on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

Nancy was born to Jessie and Mary Fitzgerald on May 25, 1944, in Aspermont, Texas. Nancy lived in San Saba all her life until she moved to Maryland to live with her son, Jessie Stewart in May of 2018. She married the love of her life, David Ray Stewart, in San Saba on May 15, 1964; they raised three children and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2014 a year before David passed away.

Nancy was passionate about so many things and mastered everything she tried. Some of her incredible talents were: Beauty Shop Owner, Exercise Gym Owner and Ceramic Shop Owner in the 70’s. In the 80’s she owned a Photography Business, and you could find her on the football field sidelines, basketball court, golf course or baseball diamond taking pictures of everyone’s kids. She was an amazing cook; she would get up at 4:00 a.m. to make homemade donuts and sell them in town. She was song writer and musician and played the piano, guitar, banjo and mandolin by ear. She taught herself how to paint and then traveled around Texas teaching people how to paint for no charge; they called her the “Whistling Entertainer.” In the 80’s, Nancy was a part of a group of women that were instrumental in getting the Women’s Softball Field built where the kids baseball fields are now located at the Mill Pond Park. She loved to play softball and was very competitive. She guarded the home plate with every ounce of her being. And when she played in mixed softball tournaments, it didn’t matter who was running to home; they were going to have to run over to her to make the run count! She loved working in her garden and had a green thumb that could grow anything. She loved playing Bingo and listening to Ray Stevens sing his funny songs and would call her sister Margie and say, “It’s Me Again Margaret” just to hear her laugh.
