Merle Deen Thompson age 82, of Bend, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2022. Deen was born on February 15, 1939, at home in Brownwood, Texas, to Merle D. Thompson Sr. and Lola (Northcut). Deen graduated from Early High School and was a well known athlete in Brown County and surrounding areas.
Deen married Kay (Millican) on June 30, 1972, at her mother’s home in San Saba, Texas. They lived several different places including Early and Winters as Deen worked for United States Postal Service, and he retired as a Postmaster in 1999.
After retiring, he and Kay made their home at Sulphur Springs Fishing Camp at the Bend. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Deen was a gardener and collected stones for his many projects he was working on at the camp. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Kay Thompson; two children: son, Kelly and wife Kandice, and daughter Kim Delgado; one grandson, Kason Erwin; one sister, Mickie Reel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Blaylock Funeral Chapel in San Saba, Texas, from 1:00-1:45 p.m. A Graveside Service was held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Colony Cemetery with Forrest McGregor officiating at 2:00 p.m. Interment Colony Cemetery in San Saba County. Arrangements under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of San Saba, Texas.
