John “Red” William Zulauf, Jr.

John “Red” William Zulauf, Jr. from Cherokee, Texas, passed away peacefully in the San Saba Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility on November 8, 2024, in San Saba, Texas, at the age of 76. Graveside services were held at the Kuykendall Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas, on November 9, 2024, at 3 p.m.

Red was born on December 30,1947, in Austin, Texas. He was the oldest child of John William Sr. and Willynn Keeney Zulauf. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1966. Red worked the family turkey farm and later for Frito Lay, Svatek Distributing, Miller Beer, Dr. Pepper and the Altizer family before retiring. Red enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also loved sports and participated in different ones over the years and watched them on TV any chance that he got. He loved the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys.

Red is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and John Alcalar, and grandchildren, JD Alcalar and Janene Alcalar of Thorndale, Texas; brother, Sam Zulauf, Cherokee, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Alva and Chris Zulauf, Cherokee, Texas; sisters and brothers-in-law: Brenda and Jimmie Don Scott, Llano, Texas, and Sherri and Lyndon Johanson, Cherokee, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, John Hollis Zulauf ; and sister-in-law, Patricia Zulauf.
