Gwendolyn Beth Waldrop, 89, of San Saba, Texas, passed away on December 6, 2023, in Brownwood, Texas.

Born Gwendolyn Beth Barton on August 18, 1934, in Brownsboro, Texas, to Woody and Janie (Ewing) Barton, she lived most of her life in and around Blooming Grove, Texas. A lifelong Baptist, Gwen spent much of her adult life teaching English, Speech, and Drama in Brenham, Magnolia, and Waller, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She married Hubert Dean Waldrop on August 25, 1951. Together they raised three sons while living in several towns in Texas, California, and Arizona. After Dean’s death, Gwen spent many years traveling to various places in the United States, England, Ireland, and Europe. Gwen served faithfully in her church wherever she lived and was always well-known and beloved wherever she went.

She is survived by sons: Steven Waldrop and wife Margie of San Saba, and David Waldrop of Schulenburg, Texas; daughter-inlaw, Laura Waldrop; brother, Tom Barton of Olympia, Washington; grandchildren: Amber Grumbles and husband Adam, Joel Marr, Lee Barclay, Bethany Waldrop Bynum, James Waldrop and wife Andrea, Melodi Waldrop, Jen Martin, Jessica McCay, and Catherine Pflughaupt; numerous great-grandchildren and cousins.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, A.W. Barton and Janie (Ewing) Barton; two brothers, Charles Erwin Barton and Arthur Wade Barton Jr.; her husband, and one son, Jack Waldrop.

A memorial service will be held at The Father’s House, in San Saba on January 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Keith Maddox of Prairie Lea Baptist Church officiating. Interment of her remains will be at Shilo Cemetery, Waller County, at a time to be determined.
