Don Kyle Smith

Don Kyle Smith, age 77, of Rosenberg, Texas, formerly of Plano, Texas, passed away March 13, 2021, in Houston, Texas, at Houston Hospice Hospital. Don was born April 26, 1943, in Lampasas, Texas, to Major Bob Smith and Mary Pearl (Simon). Don lived in San Saba where he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and graduated from San Saba High School, Class of 1961. After attending Texas A&M University, Don earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston. He met the love of his life at college and married Cheryl Kathleen Ricks on March 19, 1966, at the First Baptist Church of San Saba. Don entered the United States Army in 1968 and served on active duty in the Army Corps of Engineers until 1972 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. After military service, Don spent 34 years managing construction projects such as the Myerson Symphony Center in Dallas, the Houston VA and the Detroit, Virginia. He retired from Balfour Beatty, USA Construction Company in 2010 as a Vice President. Don accepted Christ as Savior when a youth and joined the Baptist Church as a young adult. He was a faithful church member all his days. Don enjoyed being outdoors and loved hunting with family and friends. He was a favorite camp cook, a man of character whose word could be trusted.

Don leaves behind his wife, Cheryl Smith; three children: Juliana Elizabeth and husband (Ronald) Ewer, Jennifer Dawn and husband (Timothy) Barr, and Aaron Bradley and wife (Jamie) Smith; five grandchildren: Brandon Kyle Ewer, Cameron Davis Ewer, Colton Kyle Barr, Kylie Jade Smith, and Savanah Brooke Smith; one sister, Wahnee Rae Stallings of San Saba, Texas; niece, Donna Baxter and husband Randy of San Saba, Texas; numerous cousins and all of his beloved friends.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at San Saba’s First Baptist Church in San Saba, Texas. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Sam Crosby officiating at San Saba’s First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Hillsdale Cemetery in Izora, Texas. In Lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Houston Hospice.org. Blaylock Funeral Home of San Saba, Texas in charge of arrangements.
