Trusting that Jesus would be there to greet her, Christine (Teeni) Bessent moved from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Monday, April 28, 2025. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, ECO, on Sloan Road (FM 2732) and will be officiated by Rev. Bill Proctor. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home in San Saba.
Christine Diane Pool was born April 9, 1953, to Tom Sloan Pool and Patsy Marschall Pool and was the youngest of their three children. She grew up on the ranch and became a skilled horsewoman and knowledgeable ranch hand.
On June 21, 1974, Christine married Keith Bessent at New Hope Presbyterian Church, and they immediately made their home on the ranch. Together, they became stewards of land that had been in the family for many years. In addition, they raised racehorses and traveled to many places to watch them run.
Christine was a woman of many interests and talents. Over the years, she became quite a naturalist. She knew the names of all the local plants, birds, and animals and sought to preserve the natural environment. On her homestead, she delighted in working in her garden and yard. In addition, she did much to preserve the family history and artifacts. When she went to work at the Rylander Memorial Library in San Saba, Christine read even more widely and added to her store of knowledge. She was the county’s librarian for 21 years. Christine also was very artistic. She could arrange flowers, paint, and turn a seemingly random assortment of things into beautiful and unique décor.
Throughout her life, Christine attended New Hope Presbyterian Church in Sloan Community. There she served as an elder, the treasurer, and general volunteer help. She loved the church and its associated cemetery and worked to make the building and grounds both practical and beautiful.
Christine was preceded in death by her first father, Sloan Pool; her second father, Kennith Stewart; her in-laws, Willard and Wanda Bessent; and her nephew, James Sloan Pool. She is survived by her mother, Patsy Marschall Stewart; her sister and husband, Laura and Carter Behrens; her brother and wife, Pat and Jo Nell Pool; her nephew, Chris Pool; her niece and husband, Alicia and Sterling Cole; her great-nephew, Sutton Cole; her great-niece, Sloan Cole; her church family; and a multitude of friends.
With special thanks to Claudia Zinser, the family is extremely grateful to all those who supported Christine and the rest of us with prayers, words of encouragement, food, flowers, and most of all, willingness to be present when help was needed.
Pallbearers: Roy Maultsby, Carey Franklin, Ryan Bessent, Beau Bessent, Chris Pool, Sutton Cole, Tom Murray, John Byrd, and Ronnie Bessent.
