Carmen Z. Vasquez

 

Carmen Vasquez age 85, of San Saba, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 24, 2022, in San Saba, Texas, surrounded by her family. Carmen was born on September 9, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas, to Manuel Vasquez and Manuela Zuniga Vasquez. Carmen had been a resident of San Saba since 1962. Before settling in San Saba, Carmen traveled across the United States coast to coast doing seasonal harvesting work. She harvested tomatoes, oranges,  cucumbers, sugar beets, and especially pecans once she settled in San Saba, Texas. She worked for Eventide Nursing Home for 33 years. She loved her job. She also worked at the San Saba County Courthouse for three years. Carmen enjoyed gardening, and she always had a vegetable garden. She loved her roses, and each rose bush had a meaning to her. She loved dancing and listening to Vincente Fernandez music. Carmen liked to fish and was a great cook. Carmen was known for her tamales, tortillas, and hot sauce. Carmen loved family gatherings, and her greatest accomplishment was her children. She loved them so much and taught them the value of hard work, wisdom, and to respect and love others. When the grandkids and great-grandkids came along, her heart was filled again with love and joy. Carmen was a member of The Fathers House. She loved singing and the Word of God. She read her Bible every day. She loved Jesus. Carmen will be missed by her family, friends, and former coworkers.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children: Daniel Diaz of Amarillo, Texas, David Diaz and wife Ramona of Dumas, Texas, Diana Flores and husband Edward of San Saba, Texas, and Elvira Trevino and husband Alberto of Amarillo, Texas; one daughterin- law, Fanny Diaz of San Saba, Texas; 10 grandchildren: Juan Diaz III, Pamela Renteria, Adrian Diaz, David Diaz Jr., Miguel Diaz, Angelica Diaz, Ray Flores, Sophia Flores, Sandra Quintanilla, and Gabriel Trevino; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Manuel Vasquez and Joe Vasquez; sisters: Connie Gonzales, Jessica Trejo, and Emily Watson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Manuela Vasquez; Juan Diaz Sr.; children: Juan Diaz Jr., Anita Diaz, Arnie Diaz and Enedina Diaz; and several brothers and sisters.
