It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aurora 'Dora' Flores Zapata, our loving and devoted mother and grandmother, who passed away peacefully on December 29, 2022, at the age of 101. Dora was born on December 6, 1921, in San Saba, Texas and lived a long and fulfilling life.
Dora was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all whose lives she touched, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and dedicated employee. She loved to crochet, knit, needlepoint and embroidery, and enjoyed her outings to the beauty salon to get her hair styled and nails manicured. She also enjoyed playing bingo, and always had a kind word and a warm smile for everyone.
Dora was preceded in death by her father, Carlos Flores; mother, Concepcion Flores; husband, Guadalupe Zapata; daughter, Delia Marquez; and sons, Richard Zapata and Jesse Zapata. She is survived by her daughters and sons: Maria Rangel, Estela Rodriguez, Arturo Zapata, Ray Zapata, Alice Berumen, Erma Scott and Tony Zapata; and is also survived by six generations of grandchildren who will carry on her legacy of love and kindness.
A celebration of Dora's life was held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Lamesa, Texas, with celebrant Fr. Chacko Thadathil officiating. Burial committal will follow to the Dawson County Cemetery.
Viewing and visitation were held on Sunday, January 1, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday, January 2, 2023, from 9: 00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., with Rosary prayer services both nights which started at 7:00 p.m. at the Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel, Lamesa, Texas. Dora will always be remembered as a truly special and wonderful person, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
