Anne Ivey, 94, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2022, at the Robert Lee Care Center in Robert Lee, Texas.
Anne was born July 4, 1928, in Iraan, Texas, to Rupert William (Boots) Franklin and Emilyn Inez Wojtek Nutter.
She is survived by sons and daughter: Roy Ivey of New Castle County, Delaware, Susan Ivey Fortenberry of Hockley, Texas, and Dennis Ivey of Robert Lee, Texas; grandson, Robert Acton of Grapevine, Texas; and brother, Bill Franklin of Wichita Falls, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. H. Ivey; a son, Jimmy Ivey; granddaughter, Robin Acton; grandson, Casey Acton; her parents, Rupert “Boots” Franklin and Inez Nutter; and her brother, Robert (B.D.) Franklin.
Anne served as an elementary school special education teacher in the San Saba, Texas, Independent School District for more than 20 years, retiring to help care for her husband, “H,” who had been declining in health for some years.
Anne was avid about her teaching career, which she began after completing her degree in Special Education atAngelo State University some 15 years after beginning her college journey when ASU was San Angelo Junior College. She postponed continuing her college education until she could raise her family with “H” in Robert Lee.
After graduation from Angelo State University in 1972, Anne taught fourth, fifth and sixth grade students with special needs in San Saba, Texas, at San Saba ISD from 1974 to 1998.
She was especially proud of her Czech heritage and always liked to talk about the good times she had with her mother’s family, the Wojteks of Robert Lee. Mom was a good cook, and although she never mastered baking the Czech pastry kolache, she made really good enchiladas, skillet dinners, and homemade fruit bars.
Her last years were spent doting on her kids and grandson and remembering the times she had throughout her life.
Mom, along with Dad, gave us a good upbringing and made strong citizens out of us, which we have carried throughout our own lives. She enjoyed her home surroundings and made a comfortable place in which her children could grow up. She was always there, beaming at our successes, and comforting us when we were down or facing adversity. We love you, Mama, and miss you.
