Papa was a lifelong rancher. He loved everything fishing, hunting and ranching. He spent most of his time outdoors. He worked 22 years with Triple M Cattle Co. in San Saba. He also worked at San Saba New Holland until retirement. To keep his skills sharpened, Papa worked for Chanas Ranch in Llano and San Saba County until his passing.
Papa’s love for fishing was above all. He knew all the best fishing holes in San Saba and Llano County. He spent many hours with his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and siblings on the river sharing stories and fishing.
Papa was preceded in death by his parents, Kirby and Imogene Hooten; his wife, Annette Hooten; brothers: Cot, Carl, and Red Hooten; nephew, Zackory Verette; brothers-in-law: Bobby Joe Verette and Roger Verette; and sister-in-law Linda Rouse.
Papa is survived by his children: Jeannie and husband, Gary, of Moss Point, Mississippi; Rodney and wife, Elaina, of Llano, Texas; and Jim and wife, Kristy, of Robert Lee, Texas; siblings: Barbara Miller, Jim Hooten and wife, Martha, Linda Sue Hooten, Carolyn Miller and husband, Mike, Bub Hooten and wife, Jan, and Geneva Cahoon; grandchildren: Jacqueline Harmon, Todd Stewardson, Roger Stewardson, Justin Stewardson, Kayla Fuller, Brittany Glaven, Jonathon Stewardson, Ralston Hooten, Bailey Appleton, and Kolten Hooten; great-grandchildren: Raeleigh Harmon, Cooper Harmon, Rein Hooten, Jaedyn Stewardson, Rawlee Stewardson, Aveigh Galbreath, Hadleigh Glaven, Kaydon Fuller, Gracielyn Fuller, Jameson Fuller, and Destinee Verette; along with many other close friends who were considered family.
A Memorial Service was held Friday, April 14, 2023, at San Saba’s First Baptist Church in San Saba, Texas. Alvino Valdez and Jeremy Smarr officiated the service. Interment was private.

Jackie Glen Hooten, 80 years old, of San Saba, Texas, passed away on April 11, 2023. Papa was born on May 11, 1942, to Kirby and Imogene Hooten in Mills County. Papa was the fourth of 10 children. He married his love, Annette Verette, on April 28, 1962. They resided in San Saba County, except for a small period of time in Palacios, Texas. They returned to San Saba and raised their three children: Jeannie, Rodney and Jim.
