My mom is old, but her heart sparkles with a youthfulness. Hey, the woman talks to me all day long and doesn't mind I only answer with baby alpaca whimper requests for food and walks outside! This past year of life has been incredibly difficult... Herman's illness, death, dad's incredible downhill spiral, a house fire, packing up 16 years of her San Saba life, and then moving back home with such high hopes only to find even more stress. Sometimes a person can be driving in the fast lane without even being on the freeway!
I said all of that because I became kind of mom's heart center, her pillow of peace. I brought back laughter, silly chatter, and her dancing to AC/DC! It is said dogs are unconditional, but my precious friends, do not be fooled! I was out for a walk, became so excited because I saw a black and white corgi and immediately headed toward her! I am like mom, I think everyone is a potential friend! Well even though that dog was long like me, her coloring like mine, she pretty much wanted to tear me to pieces and have me for breakfast! Her owner had so much trouble keeping her from lunging and ripping my throat out, mom picked me up to keep me safe! I looked at mom in utter confusion and hurt! I had danced with a 150 pound Rottweiller just the day before! When we got back home, mom hugged me and said, 'Lenny, my love, sometimes dogs only know the life the people they live with teach them! It isn't that corgi's fault and not your fault either!'
We live in a world where lives are often not valued, and as a dachshund, I will never understand. If mom and I get to visit San Saba, I will show each one of you how very much I love not only life, but each of you!
