The Bend News

Hello from Bend, I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to make the Bend Community Meeting this last week. I did, however, get an update from the President herself, Debbie Hicks. :-) Debbie reported that new business for the Bend Community Center included discussion of a potential Community Wide Garage Sale and an Ice Cream social sometime early next June. The next community meeting will be held on March 18th at 7 p.m., and there will be a guest speaker! Dorothy Person with the Lampasas County Friends of the Night Sky will give a presentation about light pollution. There will also be a couple of telescopes set up so that those attending can view the stars! How cool is that?!

Debbie also reported that the family of Raymond Hicks was excited that Belinda Hicks Weirschem (daughter of Raymond and Lewvon) was able to be here this last weekend to attend the bridal shower for her niece, Laura Beth Hicks. Gennifer Brister, Christine Byrd, and Clovia Ketchum were the hostesses for the shower. Laura Beth looked gorgeous, and I know she was thankful as could be for everyone who assisted in the gathering and those in attendance. On a side note, Raymond is home from rehabilitation and still reported as getting stronger every day.

Kayla Reaves, granddaughter of Diana and Lee Matthews, celebrated turning 21 years old this week (February 20th)! Benji Copeland, grandson of Sharon Lloyd, just celebrated his 15th birthday on February 19th! Happy Birthday to Benji and Kayla!

Bonnie Millican reports that February 22nd at 6 p.m., the Bend United Methodist Church held an Ash Wednesday service, begin-ning the season of Lent.

I did get a call earlier this week wondering what all the loud ruckus in the sky was late one evening. I’m assuming it was Fort Hood doing training exercises, but nowadays I suppose it could’ve been some Spy Balloons. Sheesh. Whatever it was, it was disturbing the Bend peace! Is anyone else just baffled by the world that we live in today?! All I know is that if you’re not right with Jesus, well, I sure hope you get there quick because it seems like the world has gone Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

Until next week, Brandie from the Bend 325-628-3545 < countrybrandie@ gmail. com>
